install display driver manually following https://axebase.net/blog/2014/08/23/sis-671-in-lubuntu-14-04xorg-1-15/ : install alien `sudo apt-get install alien`; get `wget http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/6/x86_64/media/core/release//x11-driver-video-sisimedia-0.9.1-9.20091203.26.mga6.x86_64.rpm` or alternatively `wget https://rpmfind.net/linux/mageia/distrib/6/x86_64/media/core/release/x11-driver-video-sisimedia-0.9.1-9.20091203.26.mga6.x86_64.rpm`; convert rpm to deb: `sudo alien -c x11-driver-video-sisimedia-0.9.1-9.20091203.26.mga6.x86_64.rpm`; install package `sudo dpkg -i x11-driver-video-sisimedia*.deb`; then do some more stuff described at the homepage; NOTE 1: the driver will be copied into a lib64 directory (not into lib). Therefore do `sudo cp /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/sisimedia* /usr/lib/xorg/modulse/drivers/.` NOTE 2: The example laptop in the blog entry has a display resolution of 1280x800. This laptop has a resolution of 1440x900. This has to be modified in the newly created `/etc/X11/xorg.conf`.
