As we received a request, how to install Tibetan language, we publish here the necessary steps to be taken. The laptop must be connected to web, as content and software has to be downloaded:
  • You need to add Tibetan character set by opening a terminal and execute sudo apt-get install fonts-tibetan-machine (Enter)
  • Next step is to import Xowa wikis, either by...

Hi Jordi, I found this new page https://www.labdoo.org/de/content/labdoos-corporate-social-responsibility-csr-package and it is a good idea to offer companies such a CSR program. Here are a few ideas for this CSR program: We should translate this page in various language. I see it is a wiki page (content). Do you want me start to prepare a German version? You plan various CSR...

Hi Jordi, this is a very good idea and that nice tool to do both, recognise the companies contribution and to motivate them to do more. Since sustainability is a core point of our activity I am a bit concerned that more valuable companies might be motivated to give away their dootronics quite early in order to get a better recognition. A German study (I don't find the link unfortunately)...

After 6 months using Xowa 2.7.1 we are switching now to Xowa 3.1.1. During the next days new images for cloning will be uploaded to the FTP server. When you are going to install Xowa by installation script you will already install Xowa 3.1.1 by this script. Please note that you should use the new wikis, as the content of the former wikis became outdated (summer 2015). 6 months can mean a lot...

RACHEL based Labdoo image Some weeks ago it was suggested to use RACHEL as part of Labdoo project https://www.labdoo.org/de/content/offline-wikis-and-oer-open-educational-ressources. Now there is a "ready to use" image for cloning containing RACHEL, just download, unzip it and clone it using Clonezilla. (instead of wikidoo/Wikipedia for schools RACHEL is pre-installed). You...

While I'm on, I'll bring up another concern I have that I'm hoping a creative solution might come from the community. I've been thinking about a dootrip I did in late January. I picked up some laptops in Sydney and transported them to Bangkok. Given the current security environment, likely to be made much worse by the plane crash in Egypt, there are two issues that need to be figured out to...

Hi Jordi, I want to introduce Jan to you , who is working at LANUV, an institute of our regional government. LANUV is interested to support Labdoo.org, thinking about donating a large number of computers to Labdoo. As LANUV owns a cloning-station they are able to install a large number of PCs and laptops within short time. But Jan is also interested in optimizing the post-...

There are several good projects that provide education distribution for offline usage. Gregg just brought to my attention project RACHEL, which provides "educational resources packaged together for download and distribution in places without internet". It includes content such as Khan Academy, Project Gutenberg, Wikipedia, etc. http://worldpossible.org/rachel/
