Dear Labdoo helpers,

just a quick update.

Spanish and French pre-set images
as there were some requests there are now pre-installed Spanish and French images for cloning available. The bad news: Due to the educational content in those languages these images need at least 80 GB disc-drives or larger. The good news: Beside adapting the keyboard layout (German is pre-set) and set hosts/hostname you should not have to do much. So they are really "ready to use" :)

You can download the new images, based actually on 16.04 LTS, from here:
ES: http://ftp.labdoo.org/download/images/ES_Spanish_images/
FR: http://ftp.labdoo.org/download/images/FR_French_images/

Samba / Windows Server and other tools
All images for cloning, dated March 23rd, 2018 or later, are coming now with pre-installed , additional tools:

  • Server Software Samba, so any Labdoo computer can work as a Windows and Linux server in a local network now. You can make shares (folders) accessible for any device (laptop, PC, mobile phone, tablets ec.). So educational content can be spread via LAN or WiFi for Labdoo and non-Labdoo devices. For more details refer to
    DE: https://www.labdoo.org/de/content/samba-windows-server
    EN: https://www.labdoo.org/content/samba-windows-server-0

  • tool stress, tool name is telling what is does - put stress (work load) on a laptop. By running many tasks on a laptop it can be tested, e.g. if the device has thermal problems (overheat). So before or after a repair job you can check easily, if computer is able to handle workload and if a repair job was successful. Just open a terminal and type stress (Enter).

It is also possible to spread Xowa wikis via an integrated http-server. How to set it up is as well explained in the above wiki pages.

The usage and above documentation of SAMBA was already proven at an African edoovillage, installing, adding and running a server to get a free file server for their school :)

I hope this information is helpful to you.
