According to a 2017–2018 After Access Survey conducted by Research ICT Africa (RIA) in Uganda only 8% of Ugandans living in rural areas have access to the Internet and computer use of which 92% of non-computer and Internet users are digitally illiterate, and thus they do not know how to use computers and Internet and 66% gave a negative assessment about their need of using computers and Internet. This is more worse in Nombe Sub-County, Ntoroko County, Ntoroko District - Western Uganda where computer and internet usage are a nightmare. In this area, it is in a common place that a large population have little knowledge in using computers and internet, few people can write CVs, few people can do Google search, few people can do online marketing, few people can order or purchase things/pay tickets or apply online, few people know that internet is a global village to find jobs, reliable donors/sponsors, etc. actually 98% of the local community members in this area never think of using a computer and internet in a near future.
This project will therefore close the gap of unemployment caused by lack of knowledge on how to write professional CV’s or do online interviews, Internet usage, searching for jobs and applying, searching and applying for scholarships, writing scholarship essays, close the information gap, address the challenge of lack of ICT skills by providing ICT skills and improve people’s exposure on computer and internet usage thus enhancing economic growth and social inclusion in a digital world.
We are currently providing theoretical computer and internet usage lessons to vulnerable community members in Nombe Sub-County, Ntoroko County, Ntoroko District - Western Uganda but practical lessons are still a challenge due to lack of Computers and because we lack computers, we have no gadgets to put internet so that they also receive internet usage lessons. Yet we have enough man power who are ready to provide computer and internet use lessons both in theory and practical.
