Labdoo takes a zero funding approach, meaning that the project only accepts collaborative donations (e.g., 5 minutes of people's time) and excess capacity donations (unused laptops, travelers's luggage space, etc.), but not monetary donations (see https://www.labdoo.org/content/labdoos-zero-funding-approach). Still there is a certain small amount of money that is needed to carry out certain tasks, such as the server costs of running Labdoo, or unavoidable small items that are not available via collaboration or excess capacity. We have been relying on out of pocket $ to accommodate for this, but occasionally we may get some help too. Our goal here is twofold: (1) keep this $ costs as small as possible and (2) when unavoidable, to report them in a transparent and open manner.
We currently have dashboards to report, track and manage dootronics, dootrips, edoovillages and hubs. This new task is about creating a new 'economics dashboard' which will allow superhubs to report their small expenses.
One concept this task will develop is the notion of "Cost per Dootronic" (CPD). This metric will be a simple division between the quantity of dootronics that Labdoo has mobilized divided by the small amount of $ that was needed. Our goal will be to work together to ensure this metric is as close as possible to zero dollars.
