Project Summary: (Please provide a brief statement about the purpose that the laptops will serve in your project site.) Friends of Makaani Kenya endeavors to provide 10 Laptops and 5 readers to Needy First year/Entry university Students of Makaani, Nzatani Location for the next one year, and 10 Laptops and 5 readers every year thereafter with support from Labdoo Laptops (makes a total of 20 Laptops for 2017/2018) Every year since 2017 Friends of Makaani(FOM)gives academic loans to 10 students from poor families who have been beneficiaries in our primary secondary school sponsorship program. This Loan enables them to realize university entry without delay or difficulty as well as be able to apply for the governments Higher education Loan for the following semesters. Though this has been successful, our students still face the challenge of doing their academic course work. This is because they are required to research online and submit typed work. Due to limited library services and equipment at the university, our students end up paying for the services privately to meet their deadlines. The cost is high and unaffordable. We therefore seek support for Laptops and readers from Labdoo to enable this students from poor backgrounds accomplish their university education more conveniently. Every Laptop given by Labdoo will be loaned to a FOM sponsored student to use for academic course, FOM will monitor its use and after the course completion- normally in 4 years, it will be returned to FOM. It will be ready to benefit the next student. FOM also endeavours to set up a computer lab in our office to train in computer basics pupils whom FOM sponsors but in lower levels of training like Skills and Diplomas to improve their communication skills. 2.
