Most Edoovillages are not aware of Linux and the advantages. They only know Windows and often reinstall Windows, even when the version is outdated (XP, Vista etc).
So Frank (Hub Zürich) and me (Hub Rhein-Ruhr) prepared a handout to be printed and enclosed to each delivery. You will find the handout on our FTP server
English:
ODT: http://ftp.labdoo.org/download/documents/english/handout_do_not_remove_L...
pdf: http://ftp.labdoo.org/download/documents/english/handout_do_not_remove_L...
If you want further arguments pro Linux to be added please send a mail to Labdoo-DACH@Labdoo.org.
German:

Of cause we are aware that many users prefer Windows and we cannot keep away all receivers from using Windows. But often after the Windows installation we are contacted and asked, if the edoovillage is able to get back to the former Linux installation. And often they are not aware of the educational software and content coming with a Labdoo laptop, even we try to train and inform the dootripper / traveller. So such a one pager might help to inform the project.
Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks.

Thank you, Ralf/Frank!
Thank you, Ralf/Frank!
It's very useful and we will definitely include it in our next laptops out together with the welcome letters.
Hi, can we consolidate this
Great idea!
Hi Padraic,
Hi Padraic,
I am not sure what you mean by "great idea"? Can you please explain more in details?
The pdf's in various languages were compiled out of the wiki pages in print-layout, as many hubs and helpers requested these pdfs. They did not like the idea to open a wiki, switch to print layout, print it, go to next wiki, open it, switch to... I think you got it. This is very boring. Another reason to offer this manual were requests from edoovillages. They asked about passwords, an overview, which software and content is coming with a laptop etc.
So these pdfs offer a much faster way to access and read them. Available wikis can be found here:
FTP: http://ftp.labdoo.org/download/Public/how-to-start/
on each cloned laptop: /home/labdoo/Public/how-to-start
If you print them 2 pages on a page and on both sides of a paper you will need 5 sheets.
It is recommended to print out one set in the matching language per delivery.
In case you don't want to cover the costs In Germany by yourself there are two options offered by the Labdoo.org e.V.:
Either you go to a copy-shop and present the receipt to the Labdoo.org e.V. The costs for printing will be paid back.
Or you ask the Labdoo.org e.V. to send you a reasonable set of printouts.
We do what we can to help our helpers - but we need your clear advices which "great ideas" you want us to solve. Thanks.

Hi Ralf, this is great. Just
Hi Ralf, this is great. Just a small comment. No computer is invulnerable to virus, but it's true that Linux is way more reliable than Windows when it comes to viruses.
So instead of "Linux is invulnerable by viruses", i would suggest saying something like: "Unlike Windows, Linux computers almost never get any viruses at all (if not never)."
We have a page in our wiki explaining the reasons we use Linux, could you add your picture at the bottom of this page?

One remark: I am not aware of the laws and regulations of trademarks in other countries. In the German text I try to avoid usage of names and trademarks, which are owned by third companies. And if it cannot be avoided I add "©" and a foot-note "...is trademark of...". Maybe other countries are not so strict, but in Germany we have prosecutors, scanning the web and search for such a formal fault, so they can sue the web-site owner. I prefer to avoid that :)
