This project proposal is about re-equipping the multi-purpose community library in Pujehun Town with laptop computers. The facility, which serves Pujehun Town itself, the District Headquarter, Gobaru, Yonni and Massam, was built in 2010 through BMZ co-funding.
Since the end of the civil war in Sierra Leone in 2002, not so much has been recovered in the education sector as the Government has been busy with other many important issues, including security challenges, feeder-road construction, democratisation processes, among many others. By 2003, through our local partner, the Pujehun Youth for Development (PYD), we started to support children to receive or access quality education early in life, and have also reached out to thousands of disadvantaged young people and adults, helping them climb out of poverty. Our intervention raised the bar in the proposed project community in 2008 when we supported PYD to establish a library for the first time in the Township’s history after the civil war. Shortly afterwards in 2010, we were supported by BMZ to construct a multipurpose community library that has been mentioned before.
Because the community was disadvantaged when it came to accessing computers due to several reasons ranging from lack of proper infrastructure to technical know-how, we supplied the facility with 6 desk-top and 10 laptop computers and supported PYD with a 5-kva generator to provide computer training at night until 11.30pm. Those computers are now out of use. Your potential support in this direction would not have come at a better time.
