Edoovillage #2276 - Uganda, Kamuli: Hope for Orphans and rural Development HORD
Location
Simon Nzigu
By the end of this project, 200 unemployed and unskilled young women and girls and boys who have attained some level of education will be trained and skilled with computer basics which will bridge the existing gender digital divide and unemployment gap in Bugulumbya Sub County. HORD will link the trainees to various job providers like companies, organizations, banks, NGOs and government; also, a community ICT center will be established where women and girls will get the facility of computer and Internet use.
Problem statement: The project area in Bugulumbya Sub County, Kamuli District is composed of slummy areas like Buwoya, Busandha, nawanende, Nawangoma and Nakibungulya with high rate of school dropout and vulnerable women and girls. Computer literacy, ICT training is very costly in these areas and not available at the community level. So, the vulnerable women/girls do not get the opportunity to access ICT facilities. HORD has taken initiatives to empower the unemployed women and girls though it does not have enough financial resources to extend support to address the issues which are important for the targeted youth especially women. It is very essential to have ICT knowledge in order to access employment opportunities at present competitive digital world. Through networking, HORD has identified the need for minimal computer and internet skill especially among the job providers like NGOs, Bank, and Companies. etc.)
To empower 200 disadvantaged unemployed young women and girls who will get employment opportunities as skilled citizens through acquiring computer and Internet training. Community youths will have access to the ICT facility that will empower them socially and economically.
We will use the laptops to provide skill training in computer, Internet and basic training on gender issues and personal safety in workplace to unemployed young women and girls aged between 09-30 and will provide job linkage with various job provider organizations. Physically challenged (the disabled) persons from female headed households will be given priority. ICT center will be established at community level for easy access to computer and Internet use.
