Project description:

Mihunga community literacy center is a community based organization engaged in various development projects aimed at improving the welfare of the people of Ruboni, Ibanda, and Bugoye Sub County in Kasese district. The members realized the need to improve the welfare of communities especially with the main focus on economic empowerment and fighting illiteracy. The organization was founded in the year 2021 with a group of young committed youth to address the community challenges. The organization looks at building the capacity of youth boys and girls in all aspect irrespective of any religion or political inclination.
Ruboni area community is one of the areas in Kasese district, where literacy levels are low and few youth complete school. The education in the area is still low due to low incomes of parents and large families which become hard for parents to provide basic needs to their children. Most schools in the area get low grades during national examination which determines
the next destination for the learner thus a discouragement to most leading to school dropout. However a survey Mihunga community literacy center conducted in most schools in the
area revealed that most schools lack computers and text books that match the national curriculum and in addition to limited commitment of teachers this affects the performance
of learners in national examinations compared to schools in urban areas.
According to the National Bureau Statistics’, the population growth rate of Uganda is over 8.4 per cent per annum and Ruboni is not exceptional and the youth 30 years and below
account for 65 percent of the population. The project operation area located on the mountain slopes of Rwenzori has an agricultural economy practiced at subsistence level which in most cases only provide food for consumption and there is less for economic purposes therefore you can hardly find a parent who can purchase a text book and a computer to supplement knowledge acquired at school.
With this cause therefore computers will enhance learners to conduct their educational researches as it’s a key to success.
