About Our Project and How We Will Use the Laptops
The AKHIN Self-Learning Centre is a safe and innovative learning space for homeless and out-of-school youngsters in Ibadan. It is designed to equip them with practical skills, digital literacy, and educational support, helping them return to school or build a sustainable career.
Unlike traditional schools where teachers dictate what students must learn, our approach is learner-driven. Each participant chooses their own learning path, based on their interests and future goals. Instead of conventional teachers, we have catalysts—mentors who guide, support, and encourage learners throughout their journey.
Why Laptops Are Essential
To make this self-learning process effective, technology plays a crucial role. Laptops and tablets will:
✔ Provide Access to Open Learning Platforms – Learners will use free resources like Khan Academy, Coursera, and YouTube to gain knowledge in various fields.
✔ Develop Digital Skills – Many of these youngsters have never had access to computers. With laptops, they will learn basic digital literacy, research skills, and even creative skills like design and content creation.
✔ Support Independent Learning – The internet offers unlimited educational opportunities. Having a laptop means they can learn at their own pace, research topics of interest, and gain skills that improve their future prospects.
✔ Enhance Collaboration and Goal-Setting – Learners will work together on projects, set personal goals, and receive guidance on how to achieve them.
The Impact of Laptop Donations
Without digital skills, these youngsters risk being left behind in today’s technology-driven world. Your support will bridge the digital divide, giving them the opportunity to learn, grow, and break the cycle of poverty. By providing laptops, you are empowering them with knowledge, skills, and a brighter future.
