Hi,
I have made a laptop with specific contents. The laptop must have all Rachel contents but just a few .zim files because of the HD size. I have several laptops with the same HD size (140 Gb) that would go to that Edowillage, so I decided to make a partition image using Clonezilla and, then, clone the image into the other laptops.
I thought that, maybe, I could use the Labtix 3 script that installs the Generic Image. That way I could simplify the process of preparing & shrinking the target HD, giving the right ID name ...
First, I saved the image into the Install-disk drive. In order to check the result, I tried to restore the image via Clonezilla, but I couldn't as it wouldn't give the restore options (I had already noticed the lack of those options when I created the image). Then I copied the image into a drive that I have with other Clonezilla images. Using my drive, Clonezilla shows all the normal options in the Save / Restore menu. The difference that I have found is the Install-disk drive has an NTFS file system and my drive has an Ex-Fat file system instead.
I have been able to install the image successfully using Clonezilla and my Ex-Fat drive. I repeated the installation using the Beginner option (then I need to use Gparted to enlarge the partition) as well as the Expert with the options included in the exec.sh script.
The next step has been to try to make the installation via zzzFM as usual. The process seems to work fine, but it only installs the image of the sda1 partition. In Clonezilla Expert mode, I must select the sda1, sda2 and sda3 partitions to be restored. In the Beginners mode, Clonezilla takes care of that automatically.
Sorry for the long explanation. I thought I had to give the whole context before exposing my doubts:
- How should I create an image in order to be installed using the Labtix 3 script via zzzFm ?
- Is it compulsory to keep a EXT formatted drive to restore images using the Clonezilla that comes with the Labtix? Weird thing is, the ocs-sr command doesn't seem to have any problem, no matter how the file system is.
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi Josep,
Hi Josep,
not sure, if this is a usable work-around for you:
Your problem sounds like a problem I noticed with Labtix 3, when I tried to store / generate new images using Labtix 3. There is a "strange" behavior with the latest Clonezilla in Labtix 3. Thomsen is able to generate images, but I had the same problem as you describe (at least it look familiar).
So I use Labtix 2 as a huge exception of for storing new images, for all other tasks Labtix 3. These images can be cloned using Labtix 3 to other devices.
Aside of that I only use for storing either my local server or local USB-disks, but NTFS formated (not Ex-FAT).
For further questions please get in contact with Thomsen.

Hi Josep.
Hi Josep.
The problem with cloning in Labtix was to keep the compatibility of the installing-scripts to the older images that are still used and were made with an older clonezilla version. It's normally recommanded to use the same version of clonezilla to clone and restore the images. So I decided to stick with the older version of clonezilla and the ocs-scripts so older Images can still be restored.
Beside this problems I successfully cloned and restored images of systems I used within labtix. For cloning I used clonezilla in the "beginner"-mode and the scripts in zzzfm. In most cases it worked, but there were problems to clone and restore debian systems. Whereas with MX-Linux ( debian-based ) it worked.
The difference to Ralf's method is that I use real harddisks and not a virtual machine. The images are cloned to a USB-harddisk with ntfs-filesystem. And I generally use harddisks that are smaller than the target disks. For this purpose I have two or three 64GB-harddisks .
I guess the easiest way is to use clonezilla-live to clone and restore images. You only have to remind what version was used for maximal compatibility. After installation the filesystem should be resized with gparted to fit the whole disk.
I hope I could give some useful hints.
Best regards
thomsen
Hi Thomsen and Ralph,
Hi Thomsen and Ralph,
Thank you for your kind answers. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to make the images work with the zzzFm script, whether LT2 or LT3. It doesn't matter either if the image is in my ExFat drive or the Install-Disk drive. There must be a parameter in the way I save the images that is wrong. I can restore them with the Clonezilla included in LT3 or LT2 in Beginners mode.
Thank you again,
Josep M
