The Church Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) was established in 2002 and is registered as a Trust
with the High Court of Namibia. Registration number T138/03 (registration date 21st January
2003). The organization is also registered as Welfare Organization, Registration Number WO
225. Registration date – 2nd June 2004.
CAFO was established in 2002 when it was predicted that, due to the HIV/AIDS pandemic,
Namibia would be faced with thousands of orphans. At the start, CAFO set out to support the
efforts of churches to support orphans and vulnerable children and their families. The focus was
on awareness-raising, capacity building, and income generation. Emphasis was placed on raising
awareness in communities on the plight of orphans and vulnerable children. This was done
through programs like the Journey of Life, psychosocial support training while kids clubs were
started in communities and children were offered behaviour change groups. In the past few
years, the focus of the organisation has shifted somewhat to vulnerable young children and their
families and early childhood development focusing on the services to pre-school children while
also equipping their parents and guardians with parenting skills raising awareness in the
community on the importance of early childhood development. CAFO also developed a
program to support young mothers to better care for themselves so that they would be in a
better position to care for their children. CAFO is a member of several networks of
organizations in Namibia that fosters cooperation for the sake of improved services to children
in Namibia.
CAFO has its National Office in Windhoek (Four full-time staff members with volunteers from
time to time. CAFO has program officers in 8 regions responsible for the implementation of the
Roger Federer Foundation School Readiness Initiative project(s) in 8 regions and the Foundation
of Luxembourg Project in 1 region (Kavango -East, Rundu) and all administration around
projects and office-related issues.nder the RFF School Readiness, CAFO support 753 pre-primary facilities (Pre-primary government Schools and ECD Centers) while in Rundu, Kavango – East 12 ECD centres with
650 children.
While it would have been beneficial to provide each facility, the pre-primary teacher or Educarer
with a Laptop loaded with the educational resources, CAFO wants to establish an ICT Hub at its
Head – Office and provide laptops to the 12 ECD centres in Rundu and would like to propose
to Labdoo e.V the following.
This proposal seeks to establish an ICT Hub using an existing 12-meter container at the head
quatres in Windhoek offices. The Hub will provide 140 children in Windhoek and 12 ECD
centres in Rundu from vulnerable and marginalized communities with access to 300 educational
resources on laptops, bridging the digital divide and fostering inclusive education. The project
aims to equip children with digital literacy skills essential for academic success and future
employability.
