Yaoundé 6 ICT Education for All is a project aimed at empowering less privilege children, youths and women with adequate computer knowledge, skills that will enable them to meet up with the challenges of the new era of information rich society driven by computer technology thus bridging the gap of digital illiteracy and equally enhance effective teaching-learning process through Computer Assisted Teaching and Learning.
It is not a secret that Yaoundé, the capital city of Cameroon which may sound like the safest place in the nation, has recently experienced a high increase of population of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Today we are counting more than 7,000 IDPs since the socio-political crisis started in the two English speaking regions of Cameroon where schools were perturbed and their population has moved to Yaoundé center Region for safety.
Internally displaced persons and educational refugees are flooding the capital city every day, especially the Yaoundé 6 Community which is still a remote area abandoned to itself where everybody can afford basic needs.
So far the Yaoundé 6 Community has been equipped with 8 school, six (6) build by the community and two 2 by the government but none of this school actually have a computer center to train their pupils and student on ICT education, and 90% of students in those school are all Internally Displaced Persons IDPs whose families can’t even afford to send them to professional ICT centers
We believe that IDPs children must have access to education even in the face of this crisis and that is why we have decided to take the forefront to help them become ICT viable. The organization exists to build human resources competent to meet the eminent challenges in today’s society. We believe that in the process of building human capacity that can meet the challenges of the current society of today driven by Information and Communication Technologies, the teaching of ICTs must also be more of a practical subject that offers students real experiences of manipulating and working directly on a computer practical and not a mere theoretical concept.
The project is aimed at empowering less privileged children, youths and women with computer knowledge, inculcating in them the spirit of entrepreneurship through ICT related training which will help reduce the rate of unemployment in the community and facilitate their integration into the digital world.
Our goals:
1.2.3.To promote the importance of ICT education in favor of the less privileged
To offer free computer training to all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in our community
To set up a multimedia center fully equipped that will help offer free training to all the less
privileged students in our community without gender bias.
4.5.6.To empower young graduates with processional computer training such as graphics design, web
development, video editing, computer maintenance and many more.
To inculcate in them the spirit of entrepreneurship through the use of computer technology as a
means of reducing unemployment in our community.
To serve as a liaison to all the community schools that have no means to promote ICT education
in their campus.
How will you use the laptops? (*):
The requested laptops will help in facilitating the teaching of ICT education in our community; hereby equipping children with skills that will enable them meet up with the challenges of the new digital world driven by computer technology. The laptops will equally enhance the effective teaching learning process through computer assisted teaching and learning. The laptops will be used strictly for education. The laptops will therefore be used to train Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) children and orphans in various aspects such as using a computer to type, draw, calculate, design and perform other basic operations.
How do you plan to train your teachers?
Our teachers are young ICT professionals already trained by some higher institution who have all decided to offer their voluntary service to the vulnerable youth and children in our ommunity especially to the IDPs.
How will you maintain your laptops?
Among our teachers we have some technicians who were trained in computer maintenance; they will be the one in charge of repairs and any related issues
