We are a group of master students at the University of St Gallen in Switzerland working on a social project with indigenous women in Guatemala.
As a part of a course offered at the university, we are travelling to Guatemala for 3 weeks in the end of January to continue a social project that
previous students have initiated.
As a part of this project, we want to provide the children of the women with whom we are collaborating with laptops as their current computers are hopelessly
outdated for learning purposes. As our funds are limited (most of the funds we have collected go to a pig breeding initiative and leasing land for this),
we are looking for alternative ways to get a hold of laptops.
The laptops will serve to teach the children basic computer literacy skills and also work as a learning instruments for languages (them being non-native Spanish
speakers is one of the reasons they are marginalised in the country). We believe that knowledge of computers is essential for the future prospects of the children
and that it can help to break the cycle of poverty that they are trapped in today.
