Project description:

Increasing ICT utilization to inspire youth for improved well-being is one of the projects of Change Lead Agency Social Support (CLASS) under Youth Economic Empowerment and Youth Participation program as CLASS key intervention area. It is a self-help project initiated by CLASS in Amugu Town Council Alebtong District of Northern Uganda. It offers digital literacy skills and knowledge to the public through practical training in basic computer courses such as; Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Publisher), Email communication, social media use and marketing, secretarial work/studies, internet usage, simple website design, blogging, computer programming (coding and python) and graphics design. The project provides internet/cyber café with fast internet connection for the public to do their online work such as; checking their emails, online events (meetings, conferences, workshops), online classes/learning/research, online access to latest/trending news/information and online job applications and registrations among others. Other adds-on services include secretarial work (typing, photocopying, scanning, sealing and printing) and a co-working space for free lancers with personal gadgets (laptops, tablets, smart phones etc.).
The laptops will be used for training computer students who will have enrolled for the above computer courses freely.
ICT nowadays is inseparable with the youth. New media is ubiquitous, technology affects everyone everywhere even if they don’t use it directly. A large part of the rural youth here in Amugu Town Council, Alebtong District are usually excluded from participating actively in the information society meanwhile a group of youth in the urban society has been privelaged simply by being born in societies and under circumstances that make them knowledgeable about new technologies. At CLASS we believe that youth needs to be more knowledgeable about technologies even in places where access is limited and the digital divide exists in order to achieve the SDG target and of course with CLASS having only 2 desk top computers and 2 laptops which makes it very challenging to reach a great number of youth. Therefore, it is upon this background that we request for more to support this cause.
