Edoovillage #2351 - Uganda, Massaka: Kyazanga Modern Primary School | Joy for Humanity

Joy for Humanity is a NGO in the town Kyazanga in central Uganda, supported by its partner organization in the United Kingdom (UK Charity No: 1183224). Aim of the organization is to improve the situation of the most vulnerable children and orphans in their rural region by offering education, health care and economic growth.
In most parts of Uganda, especially in the rural areas, there is a lack of IT education. The main reason is that most schools and families don’t have the financial resources to buy computers. Therefore, the majority of the population is not able to use a computer or learn it earliest, when entering University.
To counter this problem, the Joy for Humanity installed a small computer room in the Kyazanga Modern Primary School, which is one of the organization’s projects. They offer computer lessons for the grades 4, 5, 6 and 7, introducing them to IT education at an early age.
Currently, the computer lab is equipped with 7 donated desktop computers, which is not sufficient for the classes of around 50 students. Currently groups of around 8 children have to share one of the computers, which also frequently do not work properly due to their age. We want to apply to take part in the Labdoo project to improve the situation to be able to offer proper computer lessons, where students can learn individually. There are also similar or bigger rooms available, which can be used when the number of computers at the school increases.
We also want to equip the library of the school with ebook readers to make even more books available for the children and to enable the teachers to research and educate themselves further.
In the future, an IT center is planned for 2024. It will be installed on top of the current nursery school and offers enough space for lessons and free computer access not only for the children but also for the community.
Joy for Humanity has a partner organization in the United Kingdom. With its regular visits, the transport of the devices can easily be organized. Furthermore, volunteers from different countries in the world visit the organization frequently. They will also take part in the transportation of the computers. The next volunteers and potential transport person from the UK arrive mid of June. Two of our organization members will be in the UK and Germany in June and will also participate in the transport.
