Edoovillage #1465 - Uganda, Mbarara: Sisters of our Lady of Good Counsel

We are sisters of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Mbarara, Uganda. We were founded 74 years ago by Canadian sisters who lacked vocation or lacked young girls who were interested in joining them. Therefore, they decided to come to Africa to start our congregation so that the mission of our founder continues to prevail in the church and in the world at large.

Our mission and charism is embedded in evangelization and education of the lowly of our society. We are committed to our religious duties willingly out of complete love of God and neighbor. We consecrated our life wholeheartedly to God’s service through our neighbor or people whom we live with. We offer our apostolate in different fields under the norms of the catholic church for example health care, evangelization and catechism, education in primary schools or kindergarten, secondary schools, universities, tertiary intuitions which teach practical skills like cookery, tailoring among others. We also serve the society as social workers, counselors, health workers, administrators etcetera.

Therefore, sisters or nuns need computer skills to run their apostolate. Some are taken for further studies to equip them with enough skills for serving the society. However, due to inadequate funds and being a nonprofit making organization, we have less access and limited opportunities to having computers yet they could be of great help in our service for instance communication via email, record keeping in social work, learning in skills, research and study for student sisters among others.

Currently, we are about 450 religious members of my congregation and we mainly work in Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. Most of our services are run under the Catholic church because were under the Catholic church.
