Bolivia, Beni: To set up a new computer laboratory for a school in the town Bella Vista, Beni District, Bolivia.
Emplacement
The “Comunidad Parroquial Candelaria-Bella Vista” is a non-profit community established in 1967 and located in the town Bella Vista, Beni District, Bolivia.
Padre Jose Manuel Barrio Fernandez is a Spanish Franciscan missionary serving the people in need of the Bolivian Amazon for more than 63 years. Under his leadership, in addition to his spiritual work, he is in charge of running a clinic (performing healings and minor operations), a dining room for 100 children and 30 elderly, a nursery for 80 children and a boarding school for 30 young people. He has also carried out the construction of a temple, a school and a hospital. Last but not least, he has developed activities for integral and productive development where human values are an essential component.
He has promoted that many children with limited opportunities to attend school and have a decent life could become professionals now serving their communities and countries. Education is the main action promoted there. Actually here are three schools from primary till secondary and have around 700 students.
The new school facilities were built thanks to Padre request and government support. There are teachers running the school and Padre Jose is always actively involved together with volunteers. Currently there is not computer laboratory available and that is something that the young students claimed many times as they would like to be in the era of computation.
