Growing up in this very community of underprivileged and remote
region, I remembered how I use to collect papers for note-book in an exchange of spicy-salty
water I use to make. When it was difficult to buy even exercise/note books, buying course books
or novels were out of questions. Even now, many students in local medium often use old books
pass down to them by their siblings or relatives. To stop and prevent future students struggling to
access basic education and stuck in poverty, our project will introduce a library: a room to read
with resources such as laptops and books needed for these students. The project will also have a
program called Critical Thinking class. The main focus of the academic curriculum is to foster
English communication skills, critical thinking, problem-solving and strategies for life-long
learning and leadership. Additionally, students will be trained to run and maintain the library and
how to use laptop and access to internet. Through these comprehensive efforts the entire project
trains young women and men to be vocal, confident, and culturally sensitive critical thinkers,
communicators, students, and citizens of a global community.
Sangau is a rural development block within Lawngtlai district in Mizoram,
India. Sangau located in the far south of Mizoram in the border between India and Myanmar. It
is one of the most backward and remote areas in terms of development and infrastructure.
Sangau, however, is among one of the tourist attractions of Mizoram due to presence of
Phawngpui or Blue Mountain, which is the highest mountain peak in Mizoram.
